Head into the City
What screams the new year more than New York City? Snow is falling, stores are stocked with gifts, holiday music is playing at Rockefeller Center. The perfect time to go to the Big Apple is over break when you can go spend the weekend with your friends. Take a trip to the Empire State Building so you can look over the entire city and snap a couple photos for the ‘gram while you’re up there. Bring your ice skates and glide across the ice right outside NBC studios. At the end of the day, you can grab a cup of hot cocoa and take a stroll through Central Park. NYC is the most quintessential place you can visit this holiday season and will leave you in good spirits for the start of the new year.
Soak in the Gold Fork Hot Springs
Head to this beautiful and remote hot springs located in Donnell, Idaho for a relaxing getaway. There are six hot springs, all naturally formed, with temperatures ranging from 85 to 110 degrees. Although there is a fee of $10 to soak in the tubs (cash only), you can definitely make the most of it and spend a day here hanging out with friends and escaping from reality. Note that proof of vaccination is required for admittance too. These hot springs are stunning in the winter when it snows and is the perfect destination for anyone interested in a winter break getaway.
Take a trip to Disney World
Take a trip to the most magical place on earth and spend the weekend exploring the various parks. Each winter, Disney decks each of their parks in beautiful lights and holiday decorations. Although they typically start taking down decorations within the first week of January, you’ll still be able to check out EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts (running January 13 through February 20) or take pictures with Mickey and Minnie and the rest of the gang. Visit an Ice Castle
What’s more fun than visiting an ice castle this winter break? You’ll feel like a snow queen or king in these magnificent castles made entirely out of ice. Take a Trip to Los Angeles
Who says it can’t be winter in LA? Go ice skating at Ice at Santa Monica which is open through January 16th. While you’re there take a hike in Runyon Canyon Park which is the perfect place to see views of Downtown Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Bonus: It’s free to hike and on clear days you can even see the ocean from certain spots.
Go on a Food Tour of New Orleans
Spend the weekend walking around the French Quarter and experience the lively streets of New Orleans. If you’ve never gotten the chance to experience this city, it makes for a great winter break trip. There aren’t as many tourists as there are throughout the rest of the year, and you’ll still be able to experience all of the classic Louisiana foods like jambalaya, seafood gumbo, and much more!
