Have no fear, we’re here to help with some easy tips for saving money while on spring break.

1. Make a packing list

Avoid last minute extra expenses by planning ahead and packing everything you need.  If you have to buy common tourist items once you reach your destination, you will pay much more than you would have at home. Make a list so you don’t forget stuff like sunglasses, hat, clothes, sneakers and sandals and whatever else you need.

2. Bring your student ID

You may want to forget that you’re a college student while away but carrying your student ID can help you save money on spring break. A lot of clubs, restaurants and attractions will give discounts to students as they recognize you’re probably traveling on a budget.

3. Go grocery shopping

Keep your food costs in check. Meals out can be one of the largest – and most underestimated – expenses on a vacation. Stop by the grocery store and pick up at least enough food for breakfasts, lunches and snacks to save on overpriced meals served at overcrowded restaurants. And if you’re staying at a hotel, take advantage of the continental breakfast if it’s offered.

4. BYOB

If you’re going to be drinking, bring your own. Alcohol isn’t cheap, and you won’t immediately know where the best prices and drink specials are on arrival. So bring your own to save money – but only if you’re old enough to legally have it of course.

5. Talk to the locals

Ask a local where the best place is to grab a drink or bite to eat. Locals can tell you what’s worth checking out and what’s an overpriced tourist trap. They’ll save you time and money on spring break.

6. Discount card programs

In addition to the coupon-filled brochures that can be found in hotel lobbies and visitor centers, most, if not all, spring break destinations offer students a discount party pass which usually includes happy hour specials at various bars and clubs, plus a wide range of discounts at local stores and restaurants.

7. Check out deals on Groupon

Groupon has some great deals on essential items for spring break and on things to do when you get there. Plus, you can get an extra 25% off local deals on Groupon with the Groupon Student Program.
