You may think of Nebraska as mostly cornfields and long highways, but Lincoln is actually a good weekend destination. The historic Haymarket District, where old warehouses have been converted into hip brewpubs, shops, cafes and more, is a great place to spend a day. Plus, you can visit funky museums (like the Museum of Roller Skating) or enjoy free summer concerts in the city’s parks.

Asheville, North Carolina

North Dakota isn’t all fields and farmland—a weekend getaway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a great way to get a change of scenery for the weekend.
