The Gran Cenote is one of the most famous—and most beautiful!—cenotes in Mexico, and definitely worth a visit. This cenote has swimming, a giant cave, caverns and plenty of wooden platforms for lounging on. You can rent a snorkel mask there if you don’t have one—definitely worth it, since what’s below the surface of the water is almost as gorgeous as what’s above it. Pro-tip: make sure you get there early if you want to have the place to yourself! It tends to get busy by late morning.
Palacio Postal
An extravagant palace? An elegant mall? A…post office? While visiting a post office on your vacation might not sound very exciting, the Palacio Postal will put everything you know about post offices to shame. Its stunning and extravagant architecture is definitely worth a visit—plus you can mail out a few postcards to your mom while you’re at it.
Los Cabos, Baja California
If you don’t have Los Cabos on your spring break bucket list, what are you doing? The stunning blue water and striking rock formations that jut out of the sea make for the perfect backdrop for days of sailing, lounging in the sun, snorkeling—oh, and that perfect shot for the ‘gram, of course.
Los Rápidos de Bacalar
This is the perfect place to spend the afternoon on the water without heading to a crowded beach—enjoy a lazy river with stunning blue-green water, rent a kayak or jet skis, or float around on your own and explore nearby lagoons. This is a popular hangout among locals, so try to go mid-week if you can. Nearby restaurants and river-front hammocks make it easy to make a day of it.
Valladolid, Yucatan
The Secreto Maya Cenote is one of the best cenotes to visit in Mexico, and if you’re already in Valladolid (a stunning colonial city!), it’s absolutely a must-do. Ropes hanging over the cenote are the perfect way to make a splash and the stunning water is perfect for swimming. As the name suggests, this cenote is also less touristed—good news for your pics and your experience.
Grutas de Tolantongo
Grutas de Tolantongo (the Tolantongo caves) are a seriously otherworldly experience. This box canyon is surrounded by hot springs and thermal pools, which feed all the grottos and pools at Tolantongo. Besides the picturesque (and relaxing!) thermal pools, there’s also a zip line, suspension bridges, waterfalls and more. This area is one of the best day trips from Mexico City!
Los Coloradas, Yucatan
These pink lakes in the Yucatan are one of the most stunning sights in Mexico. If you’re looking for instagrammable destinations in Mexico, look no further than The Coloradas. Pro-tip: the colors tend to be most vibrant during mid-day on sunny days. You can also see flamingos and many species of birds and wildlife here as well, as the nearby beaches are protected wildlife areas. Monumento al Pípila
For spectacular city views in the colorful city of Guanajuato, there’s hardly a better place than Monumento al Piplia. Whether you head up during the day or to see the sparkling lights at night, the views are amazing. Tulum
