Instead of traveling to big cities this summer, it’s the perfect opportunity to travel to more remote destinations. Whether you want to take a road trip to a National Park or explore the coast of California, it’s still possible to get out of the house and feed your wanderlust while still maintaining social distance.
Glacier National Park
Based in Montana and on the border of Canada, Glacier National Park is arguably one of the most beautiful parks in the US and has already begun their reopening process. With a wide range of hikes, lakes, waterfalls and mountains, this is a fan favorite for good reason. You can also do the Going-to-the-Sun-Road, a scenic 52-mile drive through the park offering sweeping views of snow-capped mountains and glacial lakes. When you’re done exploring for the day, camping under the stars is a must!
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Not only can you just hang out in this cute ski town, but you can also do tons of outdoorsy activities including hiking, hot springs, whitewater rafting and more. It’s also super close to Yellowstone National Park as well as the Grand Tetons, so be sure to get out there for some great wildlife viewing.
Big Sur

Outer Banks, North Carolina
If you love pristine beaches, charming towns and water activities, this group of islands off of North Carolina are a great option for you. It’s the perfect place to rent a house, hang on the beach and try some water sports like kayaking, kiteboarding, jet skiing or fishing.
Kauai
Because who doesn’t want to go to Hawaii? This island is one of the more popular ones, but is also more of a remote destination than Maui and Oahu. With fewer crowds, exclusive beaches, lots of hiking and water activities, Kauai is the perfect destination for this year, especially for those based on the west coast.
Nantucket
While the island has canceled all of their summer events, you can still grab a cute rental house and enjoy the unique charm of this island off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Soak in the sun on one of the many public beaches, go bike riding on the trails throughout the island, stroll down the quaint cobblestone streets downtown and get some much-needed R&R. This is the perfect little getaway for those who live in New England.
