Taiwan is a small island, but it has a lot to uncover. In an island about half the size of West Virginia, Taiwan packs in nine national parks, over 940 miles of coastline, modern cities, stunning beaches and amazing mountains.
Looking for some of the most stunning places to see in Taiwan? We’ve rounded up some of our favorites.
Taroko National Park
Taroko National Park is one of Taiwan’s largest and most famous national parks. Although the entire park is beautiful, the Taroko Gorge is one of the most scenic parts of the park. There’s lots of hiking within the park that you can see the views from, but Swallow’s Grove is a great place to start.
Shifen Waterfall
Shifen is pretty beautiful (and instagrammable) on it’s own, but the Shifen Waterfall—the trailhead is within walking distance from Shifen Old Street. And with gorgeous walking views and a stunning waterfall at the end, we’d say it’s pretty worth it.
Qingshui Cliff
This 13-mile stretch of coastline is basically one big photo-op. Drive along the coastline with bright blue water and the dramatic cliffs falling into the ocean, there’s no shortage of good views—and there’s plenty of places to stop and snap some pics along the way.
WangYou Forest
On a cool day with some mist or rain, this foggy forest is a photographer’s dream. Tall, branchless trees? Check. Moody vibes? Check. Put a fade filter on it and you’re good to go.
University Pond in Xitou Nature Center
The Xitou forest is located in Lugu, and although there’s plenty of scenic hiking and bamboo forests to see, you won’t have to hike far to get to University Pond. The super-stunning bamboo bridge is basically set in an enchanted forest.
BuYan Pavilion
Heading up this road to this pavilion will basically take you to the top of the world in Taiwan. The road itself traces along the spine of the mountains, which means you have 360 degree views from the top. Yes, please.
Sun Moon Lake
Sun Moon Lake is the largest body of water in Taiwan. Although it’s beautiful anytime of day, visiting at sunrise will give you really unreal views. There are plenty of hiking trails around the lake or you can take a boating tour for more views.
